My Weekly Shopping Cart

POSTED BY Rosemary ON Dec 10th, 2011

As a Certified Nutritionist and Mom of two little one’s I’m often asked “what do you buy on a weekly basis?” I think this is a great question because it helps them learn and understand what foods they should really be putting into their basket weekly and what foods are better left on the grocery shelf for a “special” occasion and not necessarily on their weekly grocery list if you get my drift.

This reoccurring question has inspired me to share with all of you what I put into my weekly grocery basket and hopefully inspire and teach you a few things about how to shop, what to look out for on packaging labels, what ingredients to be aware of and some fun, healthy tips along the way to make your shopping experience more healthy for you and your family! So stay tuned each week to “my weekly shopping cart” blog post and learn how to shop more healthfully for you and your family.

This week’s shopping tip: Never shop on an empty stomach! I know you’ve probably heard this a thousand times, but now you’ve heard it 1001! It’s so important to obey this rule it’s worth saying another 1000 times. When you shop hungry you let your guard down and tend to buy things that are not healthy because your body is in starvation mode or should I say “craving” mode. When you’re hungry, your blood sugar levels drop and are no longer balanced, this is when you crave all sort of things like snack foods or sweets. So do yourself a favour and have a snack before you shop!
